Allianz received the 2010 FASPO International Sponsoring Award in the sports category for its commitment to paralympic sport.
The insurer has been a partner of the International Paralympic Committee as well as the German National Paralympic Committee (Deutscher Behindertensportverband; DBS) since 2006.
In its decision the jury highlighted the company's exemplary combination of "sports sponsoring and traditional CSR projects into a sustainable concept".
The jury praised Allianz's commitment to paralympic sport, pointing out that its national and international engagement had successfully addressed the general public as well as its own customers, the press and its employees and changed public awareness of paralympic sport. "Allianz has succeeded in establishing itself as a partner of the German disabled sport association and credibly demonstrated that it is willing to assume social responsibility."
"With assistance services, such as our rehabilitation products for accident victims, and our promotion of paralympic sport, we, as insurers, want to do more for people with a disability," said Gerhard Rupprecht, CEO of Allianz Deutschland.
"At the same time the achievements of the paralympic athletes drive home to all of us that we should not dwell on the disability - a supposed deficit - but on a person's potential. They make a valuable contribution toward the integration of disabled people in society."
